Patient and Clinical IS Programme Implementation
Over the past four years, ADHB has reshaped the delivery of its health services. ADHB’s recent major building programme involved construction of a new acute Auckland City Hospital at Grafton site and the development of a 450,000 per year outpatient facility at the Greenlane site. The bringing together of ADHB’s four stand-alone hospitals (Auckland, Starship, Greenlane and National Women’s) required a massive exercise in process, system and organisational redesign to achieve the projected service and operating efficiencies. Likewise at the Greenlane site, significant changes were required to create an efficient and patient friendly outpatient service from the many individual services running previously.
HealthMAP was involved in a major patient and clinical IS programme implementation at the ADHB to support the required changes.
The Patient and Clinical IS Programme included: implementation of I-Soft PiMS theatre module to 26 inpatient theatres and 7 day stay theatre implementation of regional laboratory results reporting across ADHB, in conjunction with Counties Manukau and Waitemata DHBs implementation of the integrated clinical workstation implementation of Orion patient tracking and electronic discharge summaries implementation of Orion’s document management system and a digital dictation system rebuilding and reconfiguring of existing core systems to support the new ADHB processes
HealthMAP took a lead role in the Patient and Clinical IS Programme from its establishment, including: planning and execution of an implementation planning study to test feasibility of the PiMS theatre implementation within significant time
constraints establishing a process based implementation approach to align and support ADHB’s new clinical processes producing and managing business cases through to final approval, including regional peer review, ministerial and Treasury approvals establishment and management of the implementation teams to deliver the agreed outcomes within the time constraints
